Rudo Schwarz, Crete, 1943. An artist in Wehrmacht uniform

Introducing the painted and photographic peregrination of a German artist in Crete, during the German Occupation the exhibition presents Rudo Schwarz (1906-1983), an artist enlisted and serving in the German Wehrmacht, in World War II. The exhibition centers on his Cretan period (from January 1943-1945), when he was transferred to Crete, where he remained for a year and a half. It includes selected works from his 388-page journal with dozens of inset drawings, and his 18 larger painted pieces.
Following a generous donation by the heirs of Rudo Schwarz, these works together with approximately 460 photographs consist since 2008, the valuable Rudo Schwarz Archive housed at the Historical Museum of Crete.
