On Wednesday 2 June 2021, the Historical Museum of Crete opened its exhibition rooms to the public once again, in accordance with health guidelines. Besides the permanent Collections, our safe and comfortable tours include the following temporary art exhibitions:

SOTIRIS SOROGAS | To Time and to Silence, with works by the distinguished artist from the Zacharias G. Portalakis Modern Art Collection.

Hommage à Thomas Papadoperakis with paintings and drawings by the artist donated by Aspasia Papadoperaki.

The Summer opening hours of the Historical Museum of Crete (2 June – 31 October 2021) are: Monday & Wednesday to Friday 10:00–17:00, Saturday & Sunday 11:00–17:00. The Museum is closed on Tuesdays.

You can visit the HMC Shop during the same opening hours and browse through the range of interesting items on offer (books, museum copies of jewellery, useful and decorative objects by young designers, and many other gifts and souvenirs). The latest addition to the Museum Shop is the 13th volume in the Society of Cretan Historical Studies Testimonies Series, Μια δύσκολη Απόδραση / No Easy Escape by Len Frazer (2021).

All the outdoor areas of the Museum Café are open to the public during Museum opening hours. You can also access the Café via the south courtyard independently of visiting the Museum.

We would like to inform the education community that the Historical Museum of Crete will be offering new and renewed programmes – free as always – to schoolchildren from October 2021. Summer educational activities will be announced soon.
