CRETICA CHRONICA 46 (2026) | CALL FOR PAPERS

We are pleased to announce a call for papers for the upcoming volume of Cretica Chronica 46 (2026). The volume, titled Beyond the Local. Crete in the Mediterranean, 19th-20th centuries, aims to open up the discussion on the scale of observation of the island’s history. The goal is to bring to the forefront approaches that examine Crete in the context of the wider transformations of the Mediterranean region in the 19th and 20th centuries and place the history of the island’s local communities in a broader national and international context. We therefore welcome papers specialising in the transformations of society and the economy, in politics and in the hierarchical and gendered dimensions of ideology and cultural practices, highlighting the relationships between local-level, national and international factors. Papers that do not refer specifically to Crete but focus on societies in the wider Mediterranean region, providing examples for comparison, are also welcome.

Submission deadline: September 2026
