Τη Δευτέρα 27 Ιουλίου, ώρα έναρξης 20:30΄,  παρουσιάζονται  Οι Ιστορίες Ανθρώπων στον Κήπο του Ιστορικού Μουσείου Κρήτης. Πρόκειται για μια πρωτότυπη μουσικοαφηγηματική παράσταση, με τις αφηγήσεις να είναι δίγλωσσες (στην ελληνική και την αγγλική γλώσσα) δίνοντας, έτσι, τη δυνατότητα παρακολούθησης στο ελληνικό αλλά και σε διεθνές κοινό.

Η ιδέα της παράστασης γεννήθηκε από την Ελληνίδα μουσικό Sandie. Γεννήθηκε στην Ολλανδία όπου και παρουσιάστηκε για πρώτη φορά με μεγάλη απήχηση, έπειτα από πρόσκληση του θεάτρου Peeriscoop, τον Φεβρουαρίου του 2026. 

Μια ομάδα εκλεκτών Ελλήνων και Κυπρίων καλλιτεχνών που απαρτίζεται από τους Sandie, Γιώργο Καλογεράκη, Γιάννη Κωνσταντίνου, Στέλιο Λαδόπουλο και Αλέξανδρο Κανακάκη εξερευνά τo ελληνικό τραγούδι, καταφεύγοντας σε αυτό ως ένα εργαλείο αφήγησης της καθημερινής και ανθρώπινης εμπειρίας και προσκαλεί το κοινό να νιώσει κάτι περισσότερο από μια απλή συλλογή αγαπημένων τραγουδιών. Μέσα από έναν συνδυασμό μουσικής και αφήγησης, οι ακροατές έρχονται σε επαφή με προσωπικές ιστορίες αγάπης, πόνου, χαράς, φόβου, ελπίδας. Παράλληλα, η μουσική λειτουργεί ως μια ζωντανή αφήγηση — μια ιστορική και κοινωνική αντανάκλαση που αναδεικνύει τις πραγματικότητες της ελληνικής κοινωνίας μέσα στον χρόνο. Έτσι η παραδοσιακή και σύγχρονη ελληνική μουσική γίνεται μνήμη, φωνή και μοίρασμα. Γίνεται ένα μέσο επικοινωνίας ιστοριών που μεταξύ άλλων αφορούν στην «εργατιά», τη θέση της γυναίκας και του άνδρα στην κοινωνία, την προσφυγιά, τη σχέση του ανθρώπου με το περιβάλλον, την ελευθερία, τον πόλεμο, τη μοναξιά. 

Όπως είχε πει ο Μάνος Χατζιδάκις «εκείνο που με ενδιαφέρει είναι αυτές οι σπάνιες, μοναδικές στιγμές που ο άνθρωπος ζει — χωρίς καν να το συνειδητοποιεί — μέσα στην αλήθεια του. Στιγμές όπου απλώς υπάρχει ως άνθρωπος, ελεύθερος από τη βία του Χρόνου, το άγχος του Χώρου και τη φθορά της Τάξης». Κινούμενη ανάμεσα σε παραδοσιακές μελωδίες και σύγχρονες συνθέσεις, η παράσταση Ιστορίες Ανθρώπων, δεν αποτελεί μόνο φόρο τιμής στην ελληνική μουσική, αλλά και ένα ταξίδι προς την κατανόηση του εαυτού μας.

Το ευρύ ρεπερτόριο της παράστασης δημιούργησε την ανάγκη ύπαρξης μουσικών οργάνων, που με ευελιξία να υπηρετούν το ευρύ υφολογικό φάσμα της ελληνικής μουσικής. Έτσι το ηλεκτρικό με το ακουστικό πιάνο εναλλάσσονται διαρκώς, και συνομιούν με το βιολοντσέλο, το κλαρινέτο, το μπουζούκι, το ούτι, το μπεντίρ και την ακουστική κιθάρα. 

Στη συναυλία, ακούγονται μεταξύ άλλων έργα των Νίκου Γκάτσου, Μάνου Χατζιδάκι, Μίκη Θεοδωράκη, Βασίλη Τσιτσάνη, Χαΐνηδων και Λουδοβίκου των Ανωγείων, αλλά και  παραδοσιακά τραγούδια από τη Μικρά Ασία, την Ήπειρο, την Κύπρο και το Αιγαίο.

Sandie (Σάντυ Τζαγκαράκη)

Η Sandie (Σάντυ Τζαγκαράκη) είναι Ελληνίδα τραγουδίστρια, μουσικός και μουσική αρχειονόμος, με καταγωγή από το Ηράκλειο της Κρήτης. Ειδικεύεται στην ελληνική παραδοσιακή και λαϊκή μουσική, καθώς και στην ελληνική και διεθνή pop μουσική των δεκαετιών του 1960, του 1970 και του 1980.

Από το 2011 τραγούδαει σε μουσικές σκηνές και συμμετέχει σε συναυλίες και φεστιβάλς στην Ελλάδα, την Ολλανδία και το Βέλγιο. Σπουδάζει κλασικό τραγούδι με τη Λιάνα Κοκόση (Panos Dimas Voice Studies, Αθήνα) και θεωρία της μουσικής με τον Νίκο Κοκολάκη (Ωδείο AΡ, Ηράκλειο Κρήτης). To 2018-2019 παρακολούθησε μαθήματα μονωδίας στη Χάγη δίπλα στη soprano Leonie van Veen ενώ το 2023, αποφοίτησε από το μεταπτυχιακό σεμινάριο για Δασκάλους Τραγουδιού στο Εθνικό Ωδείο Ελλάδας στην Αθήνα, δίπλα στον Πάνο Δήμα. Είναι κάτοχος πτυχίου Σύγχρονης Ιστορίας από το Πανεπιστήμιο Κρήτης (2016) και μεταπτυχιακού τίτλου σπουδών στην Αρχειονομία από το Leiden University (2022).

Από το 2020 έως το 2022 διετέλεσε μέλος της χορωδίας δημοτικής μουσικής Δόμνας Σαμίου, με δασκάλα την Κατερίνα Παπαδοπούλου. Με τη χορωδία συμμετείχε στην πολύ επιτυχημένη παραστάση Η Μικρασία της κυρα-Δόμνας: Αφιέρωμα στα 10 χρόνια από τον θάνατο της Δόμνας Σαμίου που παρουσιάστηκε στο Μέγαρο Μουσικής και το Πολιτιστικό Συνεδριακό Κέντρο Ηρακλείου υπό την καλλιτεχνική επιμέλεια του Σωκράτη Σινόπουλου. 

Από το 2023 έως το 2026 συμμετείχε στις εκδηλώσεις Share a Folk Song που διεξάγονται στην όπερα της Χάγης υπό τη διοργάνωση της Anouk Vinders. Το 2025 άρχισε να ηχογραφεί την πρώτη της δισκογραφική δουλειά, την οποία υπογράφει ως δημιουργός και/ή συνδημιουργός. Ορισμένοι από τους συντελεστές του δίσκου είναι καταξιωμένοι καλλιτέχνες της χώρας όπως o Ηλίας Παπακωνσταντίνου, Νίκος Βογιατζάκης, Νίκος Σιδηροκαστρίτης, Χάρης Λαμπράκης, Ανδρέας Πολυζογόπουλος, κ.ά.

Σημαντική θέση στα ερευνητικά της ενδιαφέροντα κατέχει η μελέτη της μουσικής κληρονομιάς και του πολιτισμού των Ελλήνων προσφύγων της Μικράς Ασίας, αντλώντας έμπνευση από το δικό της υπόβαθρο ως απόγονος οικογένειας προσφύγων. Με έδρα την Ολλανδία, είναι αφοσιωμένη στο να μοιράζεται την ελληνική μουσική παράδοση, δίνοντας έμφαση στο τραγούδι, όχι μόνο ως εργαλείο ψυχαγωγίας αλλά και ως ένα ισχυρό μέσο ιστορικής αφήγησης.

Ως αρχειονόμος έχει εργαστεί στο Ινστιτούτο Ολλανδικής Μουσικής στη Χάγη (Nederlands Muziek Instituut), το Ιστορικό Μουσείο Κρήτης και το Διεθνές Ινστιτούτο Κοινωνικής Ιστορίας (IISG) στο Άμστερνταμ. Σήμερα εργάζεται στο Μουσικό Αρχείο του Ελβετού συνθέτη Frank Martin στο Almere. Η επαφή της με τα αρχεία, έχει συμβάλλει σημαντικά στην κατανόησή της μουσικής ως ένα πολύτιμο δώρο από την ανθρωπότητα που πρέπει να διατηρείται στο σήμερα και να μεταβιβάζεται στο αύριο.

Γιώργος Καλογεράκης

Πλήκτρα, πιάνο, ακουστική κιθάρα, μπεντίρ, τραγούδι

Ο Γιώργος Καλογεράκης γεννήθηκε στο Ηράκλειο της Κρήτης, είναι αυτοδίδακτος μουσικός (synthesizer-πιάνο) και συνθέτης τραγουδιών, οργανικής μουσικής και μουσικής για θέατρο. 

Σπούδασε Φυσικοθεραπεία στο European School of Physiotherapy του Άμστερνταμ, εργάστηκε μεταξύ άλλων στην Ολλανδία, τον Καναδά και τα Αραβικά Εμιράτα και σήμερα διατηρεί δικό του ιδιωτικό επαγγελματικό χώρο στο Ηράκλειο Κρήτης.

Με την ιδιότητα του μουσικού και συνθέτη, περιπλανιέται ανάμεσα στους ήχους αναζητώντας πάντοτε νέους τρόπους να αφηγηθεί τον κόσμο. Με το πιάνο και τους ήχους του synthesizer ως προέκταση της αισθητικής του και με την ευαισθησία ενός sound designer, έχει μοιραστεί τη σκηνή με μουσικούς σε χώρες όπως η Ελλάδα, η Ολλανδία και το Βέλγιο, συλλέγοντας εμπειρίες και ηχοχρώματα από διαφορετικούς τόπους. Ορισμένες από τις σημαντικότερες συνεργασίες του είναι με τους Νίκο Βογιατζάκη, Αλέξανδρο Κανακάκη, Βαγγελιώ Φασουλάκη, και Blues Baitt. Έχει συνθέσει μουσική για παραστάσεις όπως το “Who is the Hero?” της μουσικο-αφηγηματικής ομάδας Greek Spirit Stories και την ΠετροΨαλιδοΧαρτοΧώρα σε κείμενο και σκηνοθεσία Έφης Δράκου.

Για εκείνον η μουσική δεν είναι απλώς μια τέχνη ούτε ένα επάγγελμα. Είναι μια δύναμη μεγαλύτερη από τον ίδιο. Ένα πεδίο ελευθερίας και καταφυγίου, όπου επιστρέφει ξανά και ξανά, αφήνοντας τον εαυτό του να καθοδηγηθεί από αυτήν. Γιατί, όπως πιστεύει, η μουσική δεν του ανήκει. Εκείνος ανήκει σε αυτήν.

Γιάννης Κωνσταντίνου

Βιολοντσέλο, κιθάρα

Ο Γιάννης Κωνσταντίνου γεννήθηκε το 2001 στην Λευκωσία Κύπρου και ειδικεύεται στο κλασικό τσέλο, ενώ τα τελευταία χρόνια δραστηριοποιείται και στον χώρο της ελληνικής και κυπριακής μουσικής.

Από την ηλικία των 10 ετών, ο Γιάννης ασχολείται με τη μελέτη και εκτέλεση του τσέλου, ξεκινώντας την πορεία του στο Μουσικό Εργαστήρι της Συμφωνικής Ορχήστρας Νέων Κύπρου, όπου τρία χρόνια αργότερα έγινε μόνιμο μέλος και ανέλαβε τον ρόλο του εξάρχοντα στα τσέλα. Έχει συμμετάσχει σε πολυάριθμα σύνολα που καλύπτουν ένα ευρύ φάσμα μουσικών ειδών, από την πρώιμη μπαρόκ έως τη σύγχρονη μουσική, καθώς και σε pop και rock συγκροτήματα, συνθέτοντας και ερμηνεύοντας αυθεντική μουσική. Από το 2025, είναι μέλος του συγκροτήματος EastMed Syndicate, ενός τετραμελούς σχήματος που ερμηνεύει παραδοσιακή και αστική μουσική από την Ελλάδα και την Κύπρο, παίζοντας τσέλο, κιθάρα, μπουζούκι και τραγουδώντας.

Ως μέλος της Συμφωνικής Ορχήστρας Νέων Κύπρου, ο Γιάννης έχει συμμετάσχει σε πολυάριθμα πρότζεκτ τόσο στην Κύπρο όσο και στο εξωτερικό, ενώ έχει εμφανιστεί και ως σολίστ με τη Συμφωνική Ορχήστρα Κύπρου. Το 2016, εξασφάλισε θέση στο Μουσικό Σχολείο Λευκωσίας, από το οποίο αποφοίτησε το 2019 με διάκριση. Παρακολούθησε μαθήματα βυζαντινής και παραδοσιακής μουσικής και συμμετείχε ως μέλος χορωδίας. Το 2018, έλαβε μέρος στο πρόγραμμα “RCO Meets Europe”, όπου είχε τη μοναδική ευκαιρία να εμφανιστεί με τη Βασιλική Ορχήστρα Concertgebouw στο αρχαίο θέατρο Κουρίου.

Ολοκλήρωσε τις σπουδές του το 2025 υπό την καθοδήγηση του Jeroen den Herder στο HKU Utrecht Conservatorium. Κατά τη διάρκεια των σπουδών του, είχε την ευκαιρία να εμφανιστεί στο TivoliVredenburg με ορχήστρες, καθώς και ως μουσικός δωματίου. Το 2022, συμμετείχε στην ηχογράφηση του πρωτότυπου soundtrack της ταινίας μικρού μήκους “Funny Feeling”, σε σύνθεση του Sebastiaan Bax, η οποία απέσπασε βραβείο Buma, και το 2023 συμμετείχε στο Opera Forward Festival, που πραγματοποιήθηκε στην Εθνική Όπερα του Άμστερνταμ.

Στέλιος Λαδόπουλος

Μπουζούκι, ούτι, κιθάρα, τραγούδι

Ο Στέλιος Λαδόπουλος είναι πολυοργανίστας, τραγουδιστής, ηχολήπτης και μουσικός παραγωγός με βάση την Ολλανδία. Γεννήθηκε το 1990 στη Νέα Κίο Αργολίδας και έζησε για μεγάλο διάστημα στα Χανιά της Κρήτης, κατά τη δεκαετία 2010–2020. Το 2021 μετακόμισε στην Ολλανδία για να σπουδάσει τζαζ κιθάρα στο HKU Utrechts Conservatorium, από όπου αποφοίτησε από το τμήμα Jazz & Pop.

Η μουσική του πορεία κινείται ανάμεσα στην τζαζ, την ανατολικομεσογειακή μουσική και σύγχρονες υβριδικές φόρμες. Ως κιθαρίστας, τραγουδιστής, αλλά και ως μουσικός που ασχολείται ενεργά με το ούτι και το μπουζούκι, προσεγγίζει τη σύνθεση, την ερμηνεία και τον αυτοσχεδιασμό μέσα από διαφορετικά μουσικά λεξιλόγια: την αρμονική και αυτοσχεδιαστική γλώσσα της τζαζ, τα τροπικά συστήματα και τις μελωδικές φόρμες της Ανατολικής Μεσογείου, καθώς και επιρροές από είδη όπως η gypsy jazz μέχρι και την experimental ambient και τη σύγχρονη αυτοσχεδιαζόμενη μουσική.

Έχει παρακολουθήσει μαθήματα, σεμινάρια και masterclasses με σημαντικούς μουσικούς της διεθνούς και ελληνικής σκηνής, μεταξύ των οποίων οι Tim Langedijk, Daan Kleijn, Shai Maestro, Bill Frisell, Jonathan Kreisberg, Julian Lage, Θοδωρής Κοτσιφάς (Next Step Quintet), Κωνσταντίνος Μητρόπουλος (Gadjo Dilo) και Γιάννης Λουκάτος (Hot Club de Grèce). Στο πεδίο της ανατολικής και τροπικής μουσικής έχει πάρει μαθήματα από τον Haig Yazdjian, ενώ έχει συμμετάσχει στο workshop Δομή & Φρασεολογία Μακάμ με τον Ross Daly και σε Oud Masterclass με τον Yurdal Tokcan. Έχει επίσης παρακολουθήσει σεμινάρια με τον πληκτρά Αστέριο Παπασταματάκη και τον μπασίστα Παναγιώτη Ανδρέου.

Παράλληλα με τη δραστηριότητά του ως εκτελεστής, τραγουδιστής και συνθέτης, εργάζεται ως ηχολήπτης και μουσικός παραγωγός, συνεργαζόμενος με καλλιτέχνες και σχήματα από διαφορετικά είδη και καλλιτεχνικά περιβάλλοντα.

Αν και δραστηριοποιείται κυρίως στην Ολλανδία, έχει εμφανιστεί και περιοδεύσει σε χώρες όπως η Γαλλία, το Βέλγιο, η Ελλάδα, η Ισπανία, η Τουρκία και η Φινλανδία.

Αλέξανδρος Κανακάκης

Κλαρίνο

Ο Αλέξανδρος Κανακάκης γεννήθηκε στο Ηράκλειο Κρήτης το 1979. Μετά από πέντε χρόνια εκμάθησης πιάνου και τέσσερα χρόνια συμμετοχής στην Νεανική χορωδία του Δήμου Ηρακλείου, ασχολήθηκε με την εμπειρική εκμάθηση παραδοσιακών οργάνων όπως, λαούτο, κλαρίνο, φλογέρα, γκάιντα κ.ά.

Επαγγελματικά ασχολείται με την μουσική απο 15 ετών καθώς συμμετείχε στο μουσικό συγκρότημα του πατέρα του Μιχάλη Κανακάκη. Εχει συνεργαστεί με πολλούς καταξιωμένους μουσικούς της Κρήτης όπως Γιώργος Μαυρομανωλάκης, Κωστής Αβυσσινός, Γιώργος Ξυλούρης (Ψαρογιώργης) κ.ά.

Τέλος, έχει συμμετάσχει σε παραστάσεις του Θεάτρου «Χωρομορφές».

On Monday, 27 July, start time 20:30, Stories of People in Greek Music will be presented at the Garden of the Historical Museum of Crete. This is an original narrated concert, with bilingual narration (in Greek and English language), making it accessible to both Greek and international audiences.

Conceived by the Greek musician Sandie, the project was born in the Netherlands, where it premiered to a warm reception in February 2026 at the invitation of the Peeriscoop Theater.

A handpicked ensemble of Greek and Cypriot artists—Sandie, George Kalogerakis, Yiannis Constantinou, Stelios Ladopoulos, and Alexandros Kanakakis—explores Greek song, turning to it as a vehicle for telling everyday human experience and inviting the audience to feel something more than a simple collection of beloved songs. Through a blend of music and narration, listeners encounter personal stories of love, pain, joy, fear, and hope. At the same time, the music functions as a living narrative—a historical and social mirror that brings to light the realities of Greek society over time. In this way, traditional and contemporary Greek music becomes memory, voice, and sharing—a medium for communicating stories that touch, among other things, on the working class, gender roles, displacement and the refugee experience, humanity’s relationship with the environment, freedom, war, and loneliness.

As Manos Hadjidakis said, “what interests me are those rare, unique moments when a person lives—without even realizing it—within their own truth. Moments when one simply exists as a human being, free from the violence of Time, the anxiety of Space, and the decay of Order.” Moving between traditional melodies and contemporary compositions, Stories of People is not only a tribute to Greek music; it is also a journey toward understanding ourselves.

The breadth of the repertoire called for an instrumentarium flexible enough to serve the wide stylistic spectrum of Greek music. Thus, electric and acoustic piano alternate and converse with cello, clarinet, bouzouki, oud, bendir, and acoustic guitar.

The program features, among others, works by Nikos Gatsos, Manos Hadjidakis, Mikis Theodorakis, Vassilis Tsitsanis, Chainides, and Loudovikos of Anogeia, as well as traditional songs from Asia Minor, Epirus, Cyprus, and the Aegean.

The Artists

Sandie Tzagaraki

Concept and performance staging, singing, script

Sandie (Σάντυ Τζαγκαράκη) is a Greek singer, musician, and music archivist from Heraklion, Crete. She specializes in Greek traditional and popular music, as well as Greek and international pop from the 1960s to the 1980s.

Since 2011 she has performed on music stages and taken part in concerts and festivals in Greece, the Netherlands, and Belgium. She studies classical voice with Liana Kokosi (Panos Dimas Voice Studies, Athens) and music theory with Nikos Kokolakis (AR Conservatory, Heraklion). In 2018–2019 she studied in The Hague with soprano Leonie van Veen, and in 2023 she completed a postgraduate seminar for Singing Teachers at the National Conservatory of Greece in Athens with Panos Dimas. She holds a BA in Contemporary History from the University of Crete (2016) and an MA in Archival Studies from Leiden University (2022).

From 2020 to 2022 she was a member of the Domna Samiou Traditional Music Choir under Katerina Papadopoulou. With the choir, she took part in the highly successful production “Mikrasia tis Kyra‑Domnas: A tribute marking ten years since the death of Domna Samiou,” presented at the Athens Concert Hall and the Heraklion Cultural and Conference Center under the artistic direction of Sokratis Sinopoulos.

From 2023 to 2026 she participated in the Share a Folk Song Εvents held at The Hague Opera, organized by Anouk Vinders. In 2025 she began recording her debut album, for which she serves as composer and/or co‑composer. Contributors include acclaimed Greek artists such as Ilias Papakonstantinou, Nikos Vogiatzakis, Nikos Sidirokastritis, Haris Lambrakis, and Andreas Polyzogopoulos.

Her research focuses on the musical heritage and culture of Greek refugees from Asia Minor, drawing inspiration from her own background as a descendant of a refugee family. Based in the Netherlands, she is dedicated to sharing the Greek musical tradition, emphasizing song not only as entertainment but also as a powerful medium of historical storytelling.

As an archivist she has worked at the Netherlands Music Institute in The Hague (Nederlands Muziek Instituut), the Historical Museum of Crete, and the International Institute of Social History (IISG) in Amsterdam. She currently works at the Music Archive of the Swiss composer Frank Martin in Almere. Her work with archives has profoundly shaped her view of music as a precious gift of humanity that must be safeguarded today and passed on to tomorrow.

George Kalogerakis

Keyboard, piano, acoustic guitar, bendir, voice

George Kalogerakis was born in Heraklion, Crete. He is a self-taught musician (synthesizer/piano) and a composer of songs, instrumental music, and music for the theatre. He studied Physiotherapy at the European School of Physiotherapy in Amsterdam, worked in the Netherlands, Canada, and the United Arab Emirates, and today maintains a private practice in Heraklion, Crete.

As a musician and composer, he wanders among sounds, always seeking new ways to narrate the world. With the piano and the timbres of the synthesizer as an extension of his aesthetic—and with the sensitivity of a sound designer—he has shared the stage with musicians in Greece, the Netherlands, and Belgium, gathering experiences and sonic colors from different places. Notable collaborations include Nikos Vogiatzakis, Alexandros Kanakakis, Vaggelio Fasoulaki, and Blues Baitt. Yiannis Constantinou

Cello, guitar

Yiannis Constantinou was born in 2001 in Nicosia, Cyprus. He specializes in classical cello, while in recent years he has also been active in Greek and Cypriot music.

From the age of 10 he has studied and performed the cello, beginning at the Music Workshop of the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra, where three years later he became a permanent member and served as principal cellist. He has performed with numerous ensembles spanning a wide range of styles—from early Baroque to contemporary music—as well as in pop and rock bands, composing and performing original music. Since 2025 he has been a member of EastMed Syndicate, a quartet performing traditional and urban popular music from Greece and Cyprus, where he plays cello, guitar, bouzouki, and voice.

As a member of the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra, Yiannis has taken part in numerous projects in Cyprus and abroad, and has appeared as a soloist with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra. In 2016 he was admitted to the Music School of Nicosia, from which he graduated with distinction in 2019. He studied Byzantine and traditional music and sang in choir. In 2018 he took part in the “RCO Meets Europe” program, performing with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra at the ancient theatre of Kourion.

He completed his studies in 2025 under Jeroen den Herder at the HKU Utrecht Conservatorium. During his studies he performed at TivoliVredenburg with orchestras and as a chamber musician. In 2022 he contributed to the recording of the original soundtrack for the short film “Funny Feeling,” composed by Sebastiaan Bax, which received a Buma Award, and in 2023 he took part in the Opera Forward Festival at Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam.

Stelios Ladopoulos

Bouzouki, oud, guitar, voice

Stelios Ladopoulos is a multi‑instrumentalist, singer, sound engineer, and music producer based in the Netherlands. He was born in 1990 in Nea Kios, Argolis, and lived for an extended period in Chania, Crete, during the decade 2010–2020. In 2021 he moved to the Netherlands to study jazz guitar at HKU Utrechts Conservatorium, from which he graduated (Jazz & Pop).

His musical path moves between jazz, Eastern Mediterranean music, and contemporary hybrid forms. As a guitarist, singer, and a musician who is also actively engaged with the oud and bouzouki, he approaches composition, performance, and improvisation through different musical vocabularies: the harmonic and improvisational language of jazz; the modal systems and melodic forms of the Eastern Mediterranean; and influences ranging from gypsy jazz to experimental ambient and contemporary improvised music.

He has taken lessons, seminars, and masterclasses with leading international and Greek artists including Tim Langedijk, Daan Kleijn, Shai Maestro, Bill Frisell, Jonathan Kreisberg, Julian Lage, Thodoris Kotsifas (Next Step Quintet), Konstantinos Mitropoulos (Gadjo Dilo), and Yiannis Loukatos (Hot Club de Grèce). In the field of Eastern and modal traditions he has studied with Haig Yazdjian, and has participated in the “Structure & Phrasing of Maqam” workshop with Ross Daly and an Oud Masterclass with Yurdal Tokcan. He has also attended seminars with keyboardist Asterios Papastamatakis and bassist Panagiotis Andreou.

Alongside his activity as a performer, singer, and composer, he works as a sound engineer and music producer, collaborating with artists and ensembles across genres and artistic settings. Although primarily active in the Netherlands, he has performed and toured in countries such as France, Belgium, Greece, Spain, Turkey, and Finland.

Alexandros Kanakakis

Clarinet

Alexandros Kanakakis was born in Heraklion, Crete, in 1979. After five years of piano lessons and four years of participation in the Youth Choir of the Municipality of Heraklion, he engaged in the experiential learning of traditional instruments such as lute, clarinet, flute, bagpipes, etc. 

He has been professionally involved in music since the age of 15, as he participated in the musical group of his father Michalis Kanakakis. He has collaborated with many renowned musicians of Crete such as Giorgos Mavromanolakis, Kostis Abyssinos, Giorgos Xylouris (Psarogiorgis) etc. 

Finally, he has participated in performances of the “Choromorphes” Theater.

Stories of People in Greek Music. Narrated Concert, Historical Museum of Crete's Garden

On Monday, 27 July, start time 20:30, Stories of People in Greek Music will be presented at the Garden of the Historical Museum of Crete. This is an original narrated concert, with bilingual narration (in Greek and English language), making it accessible to both Greek and international audiences.

Conceived by the Greek musician Sandie, the project was born in the Netherlands, where it premiered to a warm reception in February 2026 at the invitation of the Peeriscoop Theater.

A handpicked ensemble of Greek and Cypriot artists—Sandie, George Kalogerakis, Yiannis Constantinou, Stelios Ladopoulos, and Alexandros Kanakakis—explores Greek song, turning to it as a vehicle for telling everyday human experience and inviting the audience to feel something more than a simple collection of beloved songs. Through a blend of music and narration, listeners encounter personal stories of love, pain, joy, fear, and hope. At the same time, the music functions as a living narrative—a historical and social mirror that brings to light the realities of Greek society over time. In this way, traditional and contemporary Greek music becomes memory, voice, and sharing—a medium for communicating stories that touch, among other things, on the working class, gender roles, displacement and the refugee experience, humanity’s relationship with the environment, freedom, war, and loneliness.

As Manos Hadjidakis said, “What interests me are those rare, unique moments when a person lives—without even realising it—within their own truth. Moments when one simply exists as a human being, free from the violence of Time, the anxiety of Space, and the decay of Order.” Moving between traditional melodies and contemporary compositions, Stories of People is not only a tribute to Greek music; it is also a journey toward understanding ourselves.

The breadth of the repertoire called for an instrumentarium flexible enough to serve the wide stylistic spectrum of Greek music. Thus, electric and acoustic piano alternate and converse with cello, clarinet, bouzouki, oud, baglama, bendir, and acoustic guitar.

The program features, among others, works by Nikos Gatsos, Manos Hadjidakis, Mikis Theodorakis, Vassilis Tsitsanis, Chainides, and Loudovikos of Anogeia, as well as traditional songs from Asia Minor, Epirus, Cyprus, and the Aegean.

Sandie Tzagaraki

Concept and performance staging, singing, script

Sandie (Sandy Tzagaraki) is a Greek singer, musician, and music archivist from Heraklion, Crete. She specializes in Greek traditional and popular music, as well as Greek and international pop from the 1960s to the 1980s.

Since 2011 she has performed on music stages and taken part in concerts and festivals in Greece, the Netherlands, and Belgium. She studies classical voice with Liana Kokosi (Panos Dimas Voice Studies, Athens) and music theory with Nikos Kokolakis (AR Conservatory, Heraklion). In 2018–2019 she studied in The Hague with soprano Leonie van Veen, and in 2023 she completed a postgraduate seminar for Singing Teachers at the National Conservatory of Greece in Athens with Panos Dimas. She holds a BA in Contemporary History from the University of Crete (2016) and an MA in Archival Studies from Leiden University (2022).

From 2020 to 2022 she was a member of the Domna Samiou Traditional Music Choir under Katerina Papadopoulou. With the choir, she took part in the highly successful production “Mikrasia tis Kyra‑Domnas: A tribute marking ten years since the death of Domna Samiou,” presented at the Athens Concert Hall and the Heraklion Cultural and Conference Center under the artistic direction of Sokratis Sinopoulos.

From 2023 to 2026 she participated in the Share a Folk Song Εvents held at The Hague Opera, organized by Anouk Vinders. In 2025 she began recording her debut album, for which she serves as creator and/or co‑creator. Contributors include acclaimed Greek artists such as Ilias Papakonstantinou, Nikos Vogiatzakis, Nikos Sidirokastritis, Haris Lambrakis, and Andreas Polyzogopoulos.

Her research focuses on the musical heritage and culture of Greek refugees from Asia Minor, drawing inspiration from her own background as a descendant of a refugee family. Based in the Netherlands, she is dedicated to sharing the Greek musical tradition, emphasizing song not only as entertainment but also as a powerful medium of historical storytelling.

As an archivist she has worked at the Netherlands Music Institute in The Hague (Nederlands Muziek Instituut), the Historical Museum of Crete, and the International Institute of Social History (IISG) in Amsterdam. She currently works at the Music Archive of the Swiss composer Frank Martin in Almere. Her work with archives has profoundly shaped her view of music as a precious gift of humanity that must be safeguarded today and passed on to tomorrow.

George Kalogerakis

Keyboard, piano, acoustic guitar, bendir, voice

George Kalogerakis was born in Heraklion, Crete. He is a self-taught musician (synthesizer/piano) and a composer of songs, instrumental music, and music for the theatre. He studied Physiotherapy at the European School of Physiotherapy in Amsterdam, worked in the Netherlands, Canada, and the United Arab Emirates, and today maintains a private practice in Heraklion, Crete.

As a musician and composer, he wanders among sounds, always seeking new ways to narrate the world. With the piano and the timbres of the synthesizer as an extension of his aesthetic—and with the sensitivity of a sound designer—he has shared the stage with musicians in Greece, the Netherlands, and Belgium, gathering experiences and sonic colors from different places. Notable collaborations include Nikos Vogiatzakis, Alexandros Kanakakis, Vaggelio Fasoulaki, and Blues Baitt.
