In the lower right-hand section of the scene, a group of pilgrims accompanied by Bedouins and three camels is approaching the monastery. A pilgrim in "Greek" attire - a blue-grey tunic, red cloak and red gaiters - is reverently kissing the hand of the monastery hosteller, who is welcoming him together with another monk and a servant. Next to them, another figure wearing a red hat appears to be waiting his turn to greet the hosteller. It can be inferred that this group represents Orthodox devotion to the monastery, just as the travellers to the left stand for European curiosity and interest.
