In the lower left-hand corner, on the first level of the painting, three wayfarers are approaching the monastery. Two of them are clad in European attire, with dark, loose cloaks, broad-brimmed hats and boots, while the third is wearing a sheepskin, a long topcoat and a straw hat. He is evidently a guide, and is thus pointing the way to the two foreign visitors, whose presence alludes to western interest in the monastery and its environs.
