THE HISTORICAL MUSEUM OF CRETE IN THE POST-COVID ERA

The Historical Museum of Crete, being fully aware of its responsibilities as a public space, opened its doors to the public once more on Monday 15 June, welcoming its first visitors in the post-COVID era. Aiming to provide a safe and pleasant museum experience and without wishing to burden its visitors, the Museum has fully adapted its infrastructure and services to current protection guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and applies all recommended safety measures.

To avoid crowding, there are clearly visible signs indicating service points and waiting points inside and outside the building, safe visitor routes and maximum visitor numbers in each room. Please keep to the safety distance of 2 metres indoors and 1.5 metres outdoors. There are protective screens in  the visitor service areas (ticket desk, shop and Café). Large groups of people or disabled visitors are invited to call or email ahead to ensure access.

Museum staff wear face masks and visors. Face masks are provided to visitors free of charge.

Particular care is taken to ensure the personal protection of visitors and staff. All visitors and staff must wear face masks or visors inside the Museum. The Museum provides face masks to visitors free of charge. Antimicrobial hand gel dispensers are placed in clearly visible locations in the Museum entrance lobby and on each floor. All payments can be made using contactless POS terminals. Single-use gloves are provided for using audio tour devices, and the devices are meticulously cleaned after each use. There are non-touch sensor taps in the bathrooms.

To ensure a clean and pleasant atmosphere indoors, the Museum makes maximum use of natural ventilation and is fully compliant with air conditioning safety instructions. Daikin MC70L ionisers also operate in all exhibition rooms to remove microbial load. The Museum is specially disinfected at least once every two weeks, depending on visitor numbers. Cleaning by Museum staff has also intensified, paying particular attention to frequently touched areas (touchscreens, seats, elevator buttons and surfaces, bathrooms).

Information leaflets are provided. The Museum staff are always available to help ensure a safe and pleasant visit.

The HMC Café is open as usual, implementing health and safety rules and placing tables and chairs considerably further apart than the regulation distance. The HMC Café is a comfortable, safe and quiet meeting-point in pleasant surroundings. It is now accessed independently of the Museum, directly from the garden, during the same opening hours.
